The FITM City U won first place in the selection of the Most Popular MICE Institution at the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region C&E Education and Talent Cultivation Forum recently held in Guangzhou. The event was organized by MICE Alliance of Pan-Pearl River Delta Cities, and jointly hosted by College of Economics and Trade Guangdong University of Technology, Guangzhou Commercial Exhibition Promotion Service Center, Guangzhou Convention & Exhibition Research Center, Guangzhou Broadcasting Network C&E Channel, Guangzhou Convention & Exhibition Industry Association. Information and Interactivity of the event were highlighted by the organizer. This year witnessed the first “Online Voting for the Most Popular MICE Institution 2016” held during the forum. Twenty one institutions including South China University of Technology, Guilin Institute of Tourism, Hunan University of Commerce, Institute of Tourism Management South China Normal University, Hainan University, Institute of Tourism Guangzhou University, Henan University of Economics and Law, Zhongkai University of Agriculture and Engineering joined the competition for the title of The Most Popular MICE Institution 2016. The online voting system opened to the public from 13th June to 18th June and received great feedbacks. The online voting activity was viewed 782,190 times and collected over 600,000 votes by 12 p.m. 18th June when the system closed. At the end of this intense competition, the FITM City U stayed on the top of the list with over 120,000 votes and eventually won the coveted title, Most Popular MICE Institution. Synthesizing the results of online voting and live voting of experts present at the event, the organizer of the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region C&E Education and Talent Cultivation Forum awarded the title Most Popular MICE Institution 2016 to the FITM City U and conferred the certificate of merit to the representative of the faculty at the closing ceremony of the event. Gaining over 120,000 votes from the public in as short a period as six days has proved the public recognition of the quality of MICE education provided by the FITM and the achievements the faculty has made in talent cultivation. This honor is a well-deserved recognition of the competent leadership of the City U Board, the full support of industrial partners of the faculty, the active involvement of teachers and students, and the concern and support from friends in all walks of life. This is a victory for all who care for and support the development of the FITM City U. The FITM City U is a leading MICE institution in Macau with about 3,000 full time students in Bachelor, Master and Doctoral programs, as well as Bachelor of Service Program. The Master of International Hospitality and Tourism Management program earned the TedQual (Tourism Education Quality) certification issued by the UNWTO in 2014, being the only faculty winning this honor in Macau. The faculty has put effort in the cultivation of MICE professionals from Portuguese speaking countries in response to the national strategy of building Macau into a China-Portuguese speaking country cooperation platform. Through extensive cooperation with the industry, the faculty has developed a large number of excellent MICE professionals. The FITM also lays emphasis on the promotion of teaching and research, teachers and students of the faculty have published a large number of academic works, textbooks and high level papers in SSCI journals. The FITM hereby thanks all those who have long cared for and supported the development of the faculty as it makes greater contributions to the cultivation of MICE professionals in the Asia-pacific region.
