~The FITM held a special English Corner activity to increase exchange students’ cognition of Macau’s living culture and giving them an opportunity to interact with local people. The activity’s theme was ‘intercultural relations.’ Many Chinese and foreign FITM students coming from France, Zambia, Thailand, Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Mainland China, HongKong and Taiwan were in attendance. They shared their perspectives about studies and daily life with each other. It was an enjoyable affair as everybody had the chance to connect with others in a fun and informal manner. After the English Corner, the students had a BBQ party at Hac Sa beach as an extended communication activity.
The FITM hopes that providing an intercultural learning environment would help improve students’ English communicative skills and abilities. Students not only improve their communicative skills but also develop better understanding of different culture, increasing their ability to communicate effectively. Furthermore, students can practice their skills and knowledge to enhance their competitiveness. The participants all considered that this activity significantly enhanced their interaction with local students. They felt very fortunate that they have this chance to study in Macau. They also expressed appreciation for the support they enjoy from the FITM. Meanwhile local students who attended this activity were glad to meet the foreign students, not only for making friends, but also improving their English expression abilities. They all expect and hope to participate in more activities in the future.
