A delegation led by Zhang Yongning, secretary of the CPC Ningde Municipal Committee in Fujian Province, visited City University of Macau (CityU) yesterday. Chancellor and Chairman of the University Council, Chan Meng Kam, and Rector Prof. Jun Liu warmly received the guests and accompanied them on a tour of the University’s history and achievements exhibition, as well as the campus facilities and teaching environments. During the visit, the guests reviewed the University’s development journey rooted in Macao and embracing the convergence of Eastern and Western cultures, gaining an in-depth understanding of CityU’s educational outcomes and talent cultivation achievements. Subsequently, the two sides held a discussion and exchange on topics including cross-regional educational cooperation, industry-academia-research collaborative development, and talent cultivation.
On behalf of CityU, Chancellor Chan Meng Kam expressed his respect and gratitude to Secretary Zhang Yongning for his support. Rector Prof. Jun Liu provided an overview of CityU’s latest developments. As he mentioned, “In response to the national “15th Five-Year Plan” (2026–2030), the University is implementing the integrated development of education, technology, and talent, aligning with Macao’s “1+4” economic diversification strategy and the needs of Hengqin-Macao integration.”
Rector Liu highlighted the University’s development pathway grounded in “humanities and social sciences as the foundation, artificial intelligence as the driving force, and interdisciplinary studies as the direction”, highlighting the qualitative leap in research output and its research innovation to the Greater Bay Area. He mentioned that CityU is committed to cultivating practice-oriented talents with a strong sense of national identity, and is exploring a university development path with “Macao Characteristics, China’s Soul, and Global Vision”, while integrating into and serving the nation’s development strategy.
Secretary Zhang Yongning highly commended CityU’s achievements over its 45-year history. He fully affirmed CityU’s “AI+” disciplinary positioning and its effective practices in talent cultivation and industry-academia-research collaboration. Ningde City, leveraging its abundant health and wellness resources and deep-rooted traditional Chinese medicine heritage, is actively promoting the development of the health industry. The city continues to strengthen its four pillar industries: new energy, new energy vehicles, new materials, and copper materials, while accelerating the development of a core area for new energy and new materials industries. Ningde has also established a tourism research platform to integrate and enhance its rich tourism resources, advancing high-quality development in the cultural tourism sector. Secretary Zhang expressed his hope for deepened cooperation with CityU, particularly in key areas such as health and tourism, to achieve synergistic development.
