The “Professional Development Scheme” jointly developed by the SCS City U and Ponte 16 Resort Macau scored fruitful achievement with nearly 150 students taking part in the scheme successfully completing their studies. Prof. Aliana Leong, Vice Rector of City U and leaders of Ponte 16 attended the graduation ceremony and delivered glowing congratulations to the graduates. After graduation, the graduates are free to choose whether to keep working at Ponte 16 or seek other opportunities elsewhere. Majority of the graduates said the scheme significantly promotes their professional competitiveness and provides new channels for the upward flow of local citizens. They all expressed their gratitude for the opportunities of learning and development provided by the SCS and Ponte 16. The SCS jointly developed this “Professional Development Scheme” with Ponte 16 in 2012. It is a unique mode of industry-academy cooperation in the field of tourism professionals training. The students taking part in the scheme have their college tuitions completely covered by Ponte 16. In addition, they also receive student subsistence allowance by working in different positions. This innovative mode allows local students to be financially self-reliant as they accumulate abundant working experience and gain promotion prospects in the largest hotels in Macau while studying in the university. Among the SCS students who took part in the scheme, 76% of undergraduates and 83% of postgraduates have successfully graduated. Many SCS interns earned the Outstanding Staff Award during their internship. The graduation ceremony was a perfect ending to this year’s Professional Development Scheme. The SCS was established in 2011 to cultivate local tourism and gaming professionals. Supported by first-rate tourism and gaming resources of Macau, the SCS realized a win-win development of industry, community, and institution through resource integration innovations in development modes of professionals. The Professional Development Scheme is just one of the many innovative programs the SCS espouses. |
