Vice Rector of City University, Prof. Aliana Leong and Dr. Li S.Y, Program Coordinator of the IMD were recently invited to visit Shu-Te University as part of the enhancement of the administrative affairs of City University and communication and cooperation of Macau and Taiwan in the fields of education and tourism. Prof. Aliana Leong and Dr. Li S.Y were warmly welcomed by the Rector, Dr. Zhu Y.X, Dean Yan D, Dean Chen Q.Y and Dean Lin Y.Q. and other leaders of Shu-Te University. Rector Zhu introduced the overall development of administrative affairs of Shu-Te which deeply impressed Prof. Aliana Leong. Prof. Aliana Leong shared the origin of City University of Macau as it grew out of the University of East Asia and International Open University of Asia in Macau, as well as its current development and future development plans. She stated that City University of Macau has constructed a multi-system, multi-level, multi-form and multi-area education structure. The University consists of six schools, including Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of International Tourism and Management, Faculty of Portuguese Programs, International Open Institute and School of Continuing Studies. The University has also set up Research Centre for Macau Social and Economic Development, Institute of Economic Research, Institute for Research on Official Portuguese-speaking Countries, Macau Institute of Tourism and Gaming, and Centre for Research on Linguistic Studies Prof. Aliana Leong stated that the goal of the Faculty of International Tourism and Management is to provide education to those professionals who will become the next generation’s leaders through an innovative curriculum and pioneering research, to develop quality tourism talents in enhancement of social harmony and prosperity. The FITM was established in September, 2011 to cultivate tourism and gaming professionals in the enhancement of professional quality, service standards, and industry competitiveness. The FITM has received the approval of the Macau government to offer Bachelor, Master and Doctor of International Hospitality and Tourism Management programs. Thereafter, Dr. Li S.Y introduced the Ed. M and Ed. D programs of the IMD in detail, the programs of the IMD cultivate high level educational leaders for Macau and surrounding areas in the enhancement of fast quality development of Macau education. The Shu-Te Institute of Technology was founded in Kaohsiung in 1986 and was renamed Shu-Te University after obtaining accreditation from the Ministry of Education in 2000. The accreditation was the first one of its kind in southern Taiwan. Eventually, the academic programs were expanded to fourteen departments and seven graduate schools. Shu-Te University's institutional motto is being Academic, Intellectual, Happy, and Hopeful. The university is also committed to developing students with skills and knowledge not only in the humanities and sciences but also in organizational leadership and problem-solving. The University currently consists of five colleges with a total of nineteen departments, nine graduate schools, a doctoral program, continuing education division, and the two-year continuing education vocational school. |
