A delegation of Macau MICE Industry, led by Prof. Aliana Leong, Vice Rector of City U, and Mr. Lin Z.X, President of Macau Fair & Trade Association(FTA), recently visited Taiwan Exhibition and Convention Association (TECA) and exchanged ideas on the joint promotion of MICE industrial development and human resource training and sharing. Prof. Leong and Mr.Lin discussed the current development and prospects of Macau MICE industry with the Taiwan industry delegates and highlighted the training of local MICE professionals and the development of Green MICE in Macau. Mr. Ye M.S, Director-General of Taiwan Exhibition and Convention Association (TECA), and President of IAEE Asia Exhibition Council and AFECA, positively responded to the discussion. Prof. Leong also shared the development of MICE education and training in Macau, with the first MICE Management Bachelor Program launched in 2003 and currently higher education institutions in Macau offer BA, MA, and Ph.D. degrees in this field. Most notably, the Master Program of FITM City U earned the Tourism Education Quality (TedQual) issued by the World Tourism Organization (WTO). In terms of professional training, Macau has over 200 American and Chinese CEM certificated professionals, ranking 1st per capita in the world. The SCS City U and Macau FTA had also jointly launched a MICE Ambassador Training Programs, training 500 MICE ambassadors annually. With all these efforts from the industry and institutions, along with the outstanding facilities of the region, Macau enjoys relative superiority on the sustainable development of MICE industry. A positive partnership on the training of Macau and Taiwan MICE professionals was established at the tripartite meeting. Students majoring in MICE related programs in Macau institutions and the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region were accredited to join the MICE Destination Marketing Contest from 2016 to 2018. The contest was organized by Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs geared towards MICE marketing of cities. Students majoring in MICE related programs from the Asia-Pacific Region were qualified for exchanges with industrial professionals from different places and practice their skills. The delegation also visited Taipei International Sporting Goods Show (TaiSPO) and Taipei International Cycle Show (Taipei Cycle) for more effective learning from the internationalized management of Taiwan MICE industry. Members of the delegation included Mr.Lin Z.X, President of Macau FTA, Ms. Cen H.N, Director-General of Macau FTA, Mr. John Lee, Assistant Director-General, and Deng M.H, Secretary-General of the association. The delegation met Mr. Ye M.S, Director-General of TECA, and Mr.Lin M.T, Honorary President of the association, and exchanged ideas with representatives from MICE industry and institutions. This exchange in Taiwan further inspires SCS City U and Macau FTA to jointly design new concepts for the development of Macau MICE industry and creating more opportunities for industrial cooperation between Macau and Taiwan.
