The National College Students Digital Media Sci-Tech Works and Creativity Competition has been completed recently. Under the guidance of Peng Jun, Assistant Professor of the School of Education, City University of Macau (CityU Macau), the team composed of the teacher and students from CityU Macau won the first prize for the competition under the category of film, television and animation design. Participating students include Su Baohua from the School of Education, Gan Jiahao from the Faculty of International Tourism and Management, and He Binghao from the Faculty of Business. Assistant Professor Peng Jun received an Outstanding Instructor Award. The competition was organised by the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI), co-organised by CAAI Science Popularization Working Committee and CAAI Women Science and Technology Workers Working Committee, and co-ordinated by Shandong University of Finance and Economics, with the participation and support of many institutions of higher education in mainland China.
Adhering to the principle “Science and Technology Leads the Future, Creativity Changes the Era”, the competition aims at further improving students’ scientific and technological attainments and abilities, cultivating practical talents in higher education institutions for business management, and building a bridge between scientific and technological innovation and industrial development. What’s more, the competition also hopes to give room for creativity to the participating teams and stimulate the vitality of participants. The competition was divided into three stages: preliminary competition, regional competition and national finals. Joining hands with Jinan University for the first time, the team from CityU Macau was the only one serving as the first leading unit from Macao SAR. Their entry “Red Memories” is a creative short video using multimedia design and production technology, where red symbolises hope and struggle. Showing passion and love for the motherland, the unique animated “Red Memories” stood out and won the first prize among 3,219 participating teams from 458 higher education institutions.
The participating students express their appreciation for the innovative learning platform set up by the University, which enables them to gather and work together for the common goal despite their different disciplines and majors, to spark new ideas in creation through interdisciplinary exchanges, and to convey their feelings more deeply by the integration of painting, words, music and other elements in digital media creation. They hope to encourage more students to pay attention to their own growth, appreciate their cultivation by CityU Macau, study hard, and broaden their horizons.
Assistant Professor Peng said that the joint team had established exchanges of their creative thinking for many days and nights, and worked together to overcome all kinds of difficulties from planning, painting, to post-production even though the members had only just got to know each other. The team members were given an opportunity to gain new knowledge in the field of digital media and improve their creativity and collaboration skills.
CityU Macau has always cultivated students’ diversity by adopting diversified learning modes, improving students’ innovative and creative thinking as well as practical skills, and supporting and encouraging students to participate in all kinds of competitions to reveal their talents and realise their self-worth. The achievements obtained in the competition will become a new starting point for the teacher and students, who will give full play to their professional expertise through continuous exchanges and learning to make a contribution to social development.
