The lecture was conducted both online and on-campus, with more than 300 teachers and students present.
In his speech, Rector Jun Liu thanked Professor Wang Weiguang for caring about the teachers and students of CityU Macau, and his support and guidance on the establishment of the Macao Research Center for Chinese Culture in CityU Macau. The Macao Research Center for Chinese Culture takes the initiative to undertake its historical mission of carrying out a comprehensive and multi-perspective study on Chinese culture and assisting Macao in becoming a pivotal gateway for the dissemination of excellent Chinese culture, so as to promote Macao’s development in academic exchanges and disciplines. The knowledge and insights brought by Professor Wang in this lecture are valuable treasures to teachers and students of CityU Macau in their learning journey.
With the theme of “The Realistic Significance and Global Implication of President Xi Jinping's July 1st Speech”, Professor Wang Weiguang mentioned that the speech on 1 July is an outline document for contemporary Chinese Marxism. Today, we are at a significant historical moment where three “centenaries” intersect: first, this year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC); second, under the leadership of the CPC, our country has realized the first centenary goal and is marching in confident strides towards the second centenary goal; third, the world today is marked by changes unseen in a century. Professor Wang also helped teachers and students to thoroughly understand President Xi’s speech on 1 July from three aspects: first, the main content, important viewpoints, and fundamental spirit of the speech; second, to fully understand the four major historical issues solved and still needing to be solved by the CPC in its hundred years of struggle, which were laid out in the speech; third, to study and implement the important spirit of the speech earnestly, and meanwhile, to understand what it is as well as how to do it, and take real actions.
Teachers and students on site actively asked questions. In a warm atmosphere, Professor Wang Weiguang kindly interacted with the students in the lecture, patiently and attentively answered their questions, and gave books to students who actively asked questions, to encourage them to think critically and be brave enough to ask questions.
As part of the university-level High-end Academic Seminar held by CityU Macau, the Distinguished Lecture Series will invite renowned experts and scholars from various fields to give special lectures in the future, thus helping teachers and students broaden their horizons and enrich their knowledge.
