Vice Rector of the City U, Prof. Aliana Leong Visits Beijing with the delegation of Hong Kong and Macau Educators

Vice Rector of the City U, Prof. Aliana Leong visited Beijing from September 26 to October 1 together with the delegation of Hong Kong and Macau educators. The delegation was met by the Vice Chairman of NPC Standing Committee, Mr. Han Qide, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, and was feted by the National Ministry of Education at the Golden Hall of the Great Hall of the People.

Mr. Han pointed out that the economy of Mainland China has developed substantially, the people's livelihood has improved continuously, and the health care reform is making considerable progress. These are inseparable from the reform and liberalization of the country. He also pointed that teachers play a key role not only to the future development of Hong Kong, Macau, and Mainland of China, but also for the future generation and the over-all social outlook.

Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Hao Ping, hosted a dinner for the delegation at the Golden Hall of the Great Hall of the People. On behalf of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Hao extended festive greetings to the delegation, and expressed sincere thanks and welcome to all old and new friends, and for the long-standing active concern and support for national education, and promotion of educational exchanges and cooperation of Hong Kong, Macau and the Mainland of China. He said that this year is the 15th anniversary of the return of Hong Kong, and the 13th anniversary of Macau's return to China. Under the principle of "one country, two systems", "Hong Kong people ruling Hong Kong", "Macau people governing Macau", the Ministry of National Education has established closer educational cooperation with the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government and the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture (Macau). Educational institutions actively participate in the promotion of educational exchanges and cooperation among Hong Kong, Macau and the Mainland. This cooperation is constantly expanding, getting more innovative, broader, and more enriched. The successful implementation and steady development of Mainland China colleges to enroll students with exemption from the entrance examination in Hong Kong and the recommended students in Macau bring about complementary advantages in educational resources, experience sharing, equality and mutual benefits and common development seeking in HongKong, Macau and Mainland China.

Education is the cornerstone of national revitalization and social progress and is the fundamental factor in the improvement of the quality of the citizens. Teachers and educators are the forces in promoting the development of education, and instructors and pathfinders for the growth of students. As representatives of teachers, they are rigorous and studious, indifferent to fame and fortune, and have trained a large number of talents for the country. Mr. Hao believed that with the supportof the educational authorities of the three regions and the joint efforts of all parties, the educational exchanges and cooperation among the three regions will be more fruitful in the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong, Macau, and China.
