2018 Forum on Educational Research Frontier cum FED Postgraduate Education Forum was Successfully Held

Organised by City University of Macau and supported by Macao Foundation, the 2018 Forum on Educational Research Frontier cum FED Postgraduate Education Forum was held on 19th – 20th January in the Taipa Campus of CityU. The postgraduate mentor team from the Cross Strait Four Regions, influential scholars and experts from the education field and Faculty of Education (FED) academic staff and students participated in the forum. On 19th January, Rector Shu Guang Zhang and Vice-Rector Kong Fanqing, attended the opening ceremony of the forums. In his welcome speech, Prof. Zhang stated that FED is based in Macau and is devoted to academia and nurture of talents. It is hoped that the faculty will enhance academic and cultural exchange in the Cross Strait Four Regions. Afterwards, Dr. Li Shuying, Academic Registrar and Dean of FED, introduced the guests who participated in the forums and expressed his gratitude for their support and assistance of FED’s curriculum construction, dissertation guidance, review and defense, seminars, teaching, etc. He stated that the forums aimed to enhance understanding among the postgraduate mentor team and optimise the postgraduate nurturing mechanism, advocate teaching quality, standardise the dissertation guidance, improve the strategy of scientific research quality and share scholars’ frontier research. After the opening ceremony, Prof. Yan Zexian, Prof. Wang Zhanjun, Prof. Shi Zhongying, Prof. Chou Chuing, Dr. Ko Po Yuk, presented a series of wonderful keynote speeches, entitled Education Reaseach from the Perspective of Complexity Paradigm, New Field of Education Research: Postgraduate Education Pedegogy, Philosophy and Education Significance on Confucius’ concept of ‘Ren’, Comparison of Doctoral Education Development between Europe and North America: Also talking about the Postgraduate Education in Taiwan’s Faculty of Education, and The Core Literacy of Curriculum and Professional Development of Teachers in Hong Kong respectively. Prof. Liu Baocun and Prof. Ding Daoqun acted as the host for the keynote speeches. In the “Postgraduate Education Forum” closed-door meeting in the morning of 20th January, FED academic staffs, namely Dr. Shao Yanju, Dr. Wang Wanying, Dr. Li Sungyi and visiting scholar Dr. Zhu Jiade, spoke about the status quo and problems of Master and Doctoral programme, for instance, teaching, dissertation standardisation, educational research and publication. Attendees conducted a heated discussion on improving the quality of postgraduate cultivation and dissertation management, research ability, etc., and shared many insightful suggestions. Besides, many postgraduate issues were raised during the forum, such as selection and replacement of mentor, repetition rate and format of dissertation, external examiners for research proposal and dissertation defence, as well as communication mechanism between postgraduate and their mentors. Participating scholars shared their experiences and have reached common consensus regarding the current teaching situation of Macau and FED. Prof. Cai Zhiming, Head of Graduate Office, also participated in the discussion and introduced the procedures for postgraduate students enrolment, training and management. In the afternoon of 20th January, Prof. Yang Xiaowei, Prof. Law Hau Fai, Prof. Guo Xiaoming, Prof. Qin Huimin, Prof. Liu Hui, Dr. Sean Li, shared their latest research in the field of educational research frontier, including Curriculum Resources Development and School Culture Construction, Research on Hong Kong Curriculum Leadership, Review and Prospect of Macau Fundamental Education, The Development and Future Trend of Life Education in China, Practice and Reflection on Legal Education Construction in China, and Education Phenomenology: Education in New Humanities Perspective respectively. This forum was hosted by Prof. Wang Cheng-yen and Prof. Li Chen. Guests who took part include Prof. Feng Xiaoying, Prof. Li Jun, Prof. Liao Hui, Prof. Liu Jingduo, Prof. Zhou Guangli, Prof. Lu Xiaozhong, Prof. Hu Bicheng, Prof. Hu Haijian, Prof. Wang Shusheng, Dr. Hong Yanbi, as well as some local scholars, including Prof. Li Defeng, Prof. Wang Min and Dr. Wei Bing. During the forum, FED also hosted the second Programme Quality Assurance Committee meeting, CityU Education Forum, etc., in which several significant issues such as postgraduate research proposal and dissertation defense were discussed. In the final secession, Dr. Li Shuying once again thanked the postgraduate mentor team, all postgraduate students and staff for their support of the forums. The forums have enhanced the construction of the postgraduate mentor team, strengthened the communication between mentors and postgraduates and conducted an academic feast for all. |
