A Letter to Students: Welcome back to CityU

Dear students,

Hope all is well with you. As the situations of the epidemic continue to improve in Guangdong and Macao, we are finally returning to campus. We would like to thank our nation and the SAR government for putting in place effective measures and giving us guidelines during the epidemic outbreak.

Today is the first day you are back to school and I would like to welcome all of you on behalf of the University! Look around at our sun drenched campus. It is still beautiful and lively. Recently, I have seen many people busy making preparations all over the campus for school commencement. I was looking forward to seeing you on campus. I hope to see your smiley faces, to pat you on the shoulder or shake your hands when walking past you, just like before, and to enjoy all the wonderful moments that we normally have.

The epidemic has posed us many challenges. Compared with the inconvenience caused by isolation at home and compared with the losses caused by city lock down and road closure, the respect for life and quest for health deserve greater concern. Even in the face of great difficulty, the University still made every effort to ensure that students could continue with their studies. Rigorous epidemic prevention measures were implemented promptly and better and better epidemic prevention facilities were provided on campus, demonstrating the “CityU speed”. With the effort of the entire school, online teaching was launched at the beginning of February and full coverage of courses was achieved, demonstrating the “CityU forces”. Students responded proactively and studied hard, giving us greater “CityU confidence”. Teachers and students made contributions on the frontline, demonstrating the “CityU responsibility”.

The new academic year has commenced and the University would follow the guidelines of the healthcare and higher education departments of the SAR government and make proper arrangements with respect to the study of students. As it is learnt, in accordance with the guidelines of the Higher Education Bureau, all Macao higher institutions will resume teaching on campus as the new semester starts. Online teaching will only be conducted for individual students who are unable to return to school because of the immigration policies. Please read carefully the class schedules issued by different Faculties/Schools and visit the webpage of the Academic Affairs Office and the TronClass system for latest information.

It is not easy that we finally get to return to the campus. There are many people who have contributed towards this and the University has made preparations. In order to protect the safety on campus and the health of students, the University has formulated detailed epidemic prevention guidelines based on those issues by the Health Bureau and Higher Education Bureau. Your compliance will be much appreciated. Information on epidemic prevention has been and will be uploaded onto the dedicated webpage of “Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia Prevention and Control Information”. Please check them out carefully and stay tuned.

Let us work together in creating a happy and healthy life on campus and leave a beautiful memory of the campus during this special period. Lastly, wish all of you and your family members safety and health. Excel in your studies!
