The City University of Macau has been notified by the Secretariat of the Asian Planning Schools Association (APSA) of the approval of its Faculty of Innovation and Design to formally become a full member, which is the first in Macau. The Faculty submitted membership application materials to the APSA in October last year and the Macau Urban Planning Institute provided the University with an important correspondence supporting its APSA application. In August this year, the APSA Executive Committee held a meeting to discuss the membership application by the Faculty of Innovation and Design and finally decided that the application be approved.
APSA is one of the four most influential regional academic organizations in urban planning globally. It is dedicated to providing planners and planning institutions with a platform for discussion on urban planning in Asian countries and to fostering new generations of academics and professional planners in Asia. The Secretariat of APSA is located at the University of Tokyo. The current President of APSA is Professor Sang-In Jun from Seoul National University. APSA full members are all flagship institutions of urban planning education and research in Asia. Among them are the School of Architecture at Tsinghua University, College of Architecture and Urban Planning at Tongji University, Department of Urban Planning and Design at the University of Hong Kong, Graduate Institute of Building and Planning at the National Taiwan University, Department of Urban Engineering at the University of Tokyo, and the Graduate School of Environmental Studies at Seoul National University. Assistant Professor Chaosu Li, Program Coordinator of the Postgraduate Programs of Urban Planning and Design at the Faculty of Innovation and Design, attended the 15th APSA Congress held at Seoul National University as the representative of the University. He has played an active role in promoting the Faculty of Innovation and Design to join APSA.
