City U Delegation Visited Taiwan, Promoting Cooperation with Taiwan Universities

A delegation from City University of Macau visited Taiwan recently. Led by Prof. Yan Zexian, Rector of City University of Macau, the Delegation also included Ms. Clara Fung, Executive Director of the Foundation of City University and Ms. Amy Xu, Assistant to the Director of International Open Institute of City U.

The Delegation visited Chinese Culture University (PCCU) in Taiwan and Taiwan Shih Hsin University, signing cooperation framework agreements on academic research, student and information exchange with the both universities. It has been agreed that the universities will see more communication and cooperation in the future, thereby bringing benefits to Macau and Taiwan.

Chinese Culture University in Taiwan has always conducted itself as the base for Chinese culture’s revival and focused on promoting Chinese culture and achieving academic excellence. In PCCU, humanities, social and technical disciplines are equally important, just as both education and research are priorities. PCCU’s aim is to cultivate talents whom would be morally strong, intelligent and practical. Over its half-century history, PCCU has become one of the best private universities in Taiwan. The School of Continuing Education of PCCU was established in 1971 with the purpose of providing life-long education in both academic degree programmes and non-formal courses for all who wish to learn; it is now the largest life-long education institute in Taiwan. As continuing education is also one of the specialties of City U, the Delegation met with heads of the School of Continuing Education of PCCU, and had an in-depth discussion on inter-school cooperating particularly focusing in continuing education.

Taiwan Shih Tsin University is a private university well known for its programmes in humanities and social sciences. The strongest subjects being journalism and media, many famous people in the mass media circle and talents in cultural creative industry are among Shih Tsin’s alumni. Shih Hsin University focuses on combining theory with practice, so that the graduates would not be "second-time freshmen” when they enter the society. It puts a great deal of efforts on attracting professionals in the related industries to join the faculty, which allows the students to not only learn academic knowledge, but also to gain solid practical skills. City U’s path is very much like the one Shih Tsin University has taken: throughout City U’s 30-year history and four name changes, “Knowledge and Practice” has always been the motto City U stay true to. Under the framework agreement, City U and Shih Tsin University will explore multi-facet cooperation in practical areas, benefiting both the students and the community.
