CityU holds Registered Financial Consultant Graduation & Conferment Ceremony, advancing financial talent internationalization

In collaboration with the Faculty of Finance (FOF) at City University of Macau (CityU), Macau Institute of Financial Services (IFS), and International Association of Registered Financial Consultants (IARFC), and co-organized by CityU International Training and Testing Center, the Registered Financial Consultant Graduation & Conferment Ceremony was recently held at Taipa campus. During the ceremony, students received the “Certificate in Financial Consulting” and the qualification of “Registered Financial Consultant”. This international recognition helped Macao SAR government promote moderate economic development and cultivate more financial talents, fostering holistic development of the local financial professionals.

Prof. Adrian Cheung Wai Kong, Dean of FOF, noted that, since the program was established at CityU in 2014, it has now been over a decade. Throughout this period, it has kept pace with the development of the nation and Macao, creating a platform for professional advancement for local financial practitioners through close collaboration with industry associations and international organizations. Dean Cheung expressed his hope that students would be able to integrate the financial planning skills learned in the classroom with practical experience, grasp the financial policy opportunities arising from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone, and contribute to the nation’s financial development.

Rosita Lou Teng Sam, president of the Executive Board of IFS, extended her sincere congratulations to all graduating students and expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the IARFC Hong Kong and Macao Centre Company Limited, CityU, and all mentors and administrative staff for their dedication. She said that since the introduction of the RFC program over a decade ago, it has helped more than 500 industry professionals obtain international certification. In alignment of the SAR Government’s “1+4” appropriate economic diversification strategy, Lou stressed that financial regulations and the wealth management market are getting matured, making internationally oriented professionals a critical factor in local economic transformation. Standing at the new starting point of the 15th Five-Year Plan and the development of the Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, Lou encouraged the graduates to uphold professional ethics, pursuit lifelong learning, and make steady and sustained progress in the field of financial planning, collectively contributing to the financial development of the Greater Bay Area.

Dr Teresa So, chair of IARFC Hong Kong and Macao delivered an online address, congratulating the newly certified RFC graduates. She noted that the RFC is an international professional qualification awarded by IARFC (USA), representing excellence in the field of financial planning. From past financial crises to recent geopolitical shocks, the critical role of professional financial planners in risk management and client protection has been clearly demonstrated. She said that since the introduction of the program in 2006, IARFC has maintained close collaboration with CityU and the IFS, dedicated to enhancing local professional standards. Dr. So expressed her hope that the graduates would uphold professional ethics and contribute to the financial development of Macao and the Greater China region.

The “Register Financial Consultant” (RFC) certification is awarded by IARFC in the United States, recognizing financial professionals who meet outstanding standards in education, experience, and integrity. Since 2014, CityU has introduced this international certification to advance industry-academia collaboration, advancing the international professional credentials. This initiative precisely aligns forward-looking academic theories with cutting-edge industry standards, providing robust talent support and professional momentum for Macao’s “1+4” appropriate economic diversification strategy.

The conferment ceremony was also attended by: David Lo Chi Man, member of Executive Board of IFS; Choi Lai Si, director of IFS; CEO Allan Wan, and assistant administrative manager Ho Yee Lin, of IARFC Hong Kong and Macao Centre Company Limited; Prof. Eva Khong Yueng Wah, associate dean of the FOF; Doris Wu, acting head of the International Training and Testing Center, and Susanna Chan, senior regional director of the Insurance Institution.
