The International Summit on New Power System & Green Energy Development, organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), co-organized by Companhia de Electricidade de Macau (CEM), Dongfang Electronics Group Co,. Ltd., and City University of Macau (CityU) was held today at CityU Taipa campus. The event was supported by Dongfang Wisdom. The summit brought together over a hundred industry representatives and experts from Macao, Chinese mainland, Sri Lanka and beyond. Focusing on the construction of new power systems and green energy development, with an emphasis on digital, intelligent, and low-carbon power technologies, participants jointly explored the future direction of the green transformation of the power industry, building an international exchange and cooperation platform for green transition of the local power sector and the high-quality energy development of the Greater Bay Area.
The summit was attended by Wang Mizhi, deputy head of the Social Development Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Lei Chu San, Head of the Energy Sector Development and Management Department of the Environmental Protection Bureau; Lei Hio Tong, president of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers of Macau; Fang Zhengji, chairman of Dongfang Electronics Group; Xie Jianguo, Chairman of Yantai Dongfang Wisdom Electric Co., Ltd.; Vice Rector Zhou Wanlei; Bernie Leong, chairman of Executive Committee of CEM; Kwok Tsz Tun, deputy director of smart grid and innovation at CLP Power Hong Kong Ltd.; and Yan Ka Wing, manager of projects construction and maintenance for transmission and distribution division at Hongkong Electric Company Limited.

In his speech, Lei Hio Tong, president of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers of Macau, said that the world is undergoing a major energy transformation, and that Macao, located in the Greater Bay Area, can serve as a demonstration platform for green technologies. He expressed the hope that the forum would build a bridge for exchanges among the research, engineering, and policy sectors, and help Mainland enterprises connect with overseas markets.
Bernie Leong, chairman of the Executive Committee of CEM, pointed out that as the nation enters the “15th Five-Year Plan” and Macao advances its “3rd Five-Year Plan,” green and low-carbon transformation is a key development priority; building a safe, resilient, and sustainable power system will support Macao’s moderately diversified economic development and the construction of the Greater Bay Area.
Fang Zhengji, party secretary, chairman, and general manager of Dongfang Electronics Group, said that energy transition is a shared mission for all humanity; as an important bridge connecting China with Portuguese‑speaking countries and linking global energy innovation cooperation, Macao can serve as a pivot for deepening technical exchanges with global peers and jointly building an industrial ecosystem.

The summit featured a keynote presentation session and a technical sharing and exchange session. During the keynote session, six experts shared their insights on green power development. They were Liu Zhichao, Chief Technical Expert of Yantai Dongfang Wisdom Electric Co., Ltd.; Edmond Etchri, Advisor to the Executive Committee of CEM; Eng. S.A.P.C.
