CityU master’s student wins gold prize at international design competition

The 6th Beautiful China Art and Design Competition and the 9th Jinpu Awards International Urban Landscape Design Competition, organized by the Chinese Society of Forestry and the Nanjing Forestry University, was recently concluded. Chen Qixin, a second-year master’s student in the Faculty of Innovation and Design (FIAD) at the City University of Macau, won the gold prize in the “Public Space Design” category of the university group with the work “Three Life Paradigm – Conceptual Space Design for Future Community Service Center”, under the guidance of Assistant Professor Hu Xin and a fellow student from the Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University.

Chen’s work showcases how human settlements are consciously developed, utilized, and transformed from nature into a livable environment. Since ancient times, humans have always lived in communities, whether it is the current community, or the rural area based on clans and villages. The work envisions a future community space in 15 years, transforming the traditional Fujian-style courtyard houses in the village and incorporating modern spatial attributes, creating a suitable place for modern people to live in and traditional courtyard houses, seamlessly adapting to the future village of indigenous people and “returning to farming” lifestyle. This will create a community ecosystem that integrates farming, production, and life, stimulating new vitality. It will also allow people from different backgrounds, whether they are from their hometown, new to the town, or returning home, to live harmoniously in the future intelligent community space.

The competition was divided into university group, professional group, and youth group, with a total of 575 schools and institutions participating and 8,511 submissions received. A total of 486 outstanding works were selected. The submissions for this competition included works in categories such as landscape design, interior space design, and other artistic designs, as well as microfilms, animations, and other film and photography works. The content covered topics such as the construction of a beautiful China, eco-cities, and green and low-carbon development. This competition played a vital role in promoting the construction of a beautiful China and cultivating young design talents.

The Faculty of Innovation and Design (FIAD) at the City University of Macau remains committed to its mission of fostering innovative talents and encouraging students to strive for excellence. This award is a testament to the high teaching quality and professional abilities of our students, as well as a tangible reflection of FIAD’s impact on the global design competition.
