CityU student presents research at the IEEE 29th International Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work in Design

The 29th International IEEE Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work in Design (CSCWD 2026) was recently held at Fuyao University of Science and Technology. Zhao Chonglin, a third-year computer science student at Faculty of Data Science and member of the Honors Class, was invited to attend and delivered a presentation on his accepted paper, showcasing the cutting-edge research and practical achievements of undergraduates in the field of digital healthcare.

The conference, first established in 1996 and supported by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), is dedicated to advancing the application of collaborative technologies in the design of processes, products, systems, and services across industries and society, providing a high-level academic exchange platform for scholars worldwide in related fields

The research paper of Zhao, titled "Design of a Lightweight Collaborative Risk Prediction Framework for ICUs: Optimizing Clinical Workflows via Core ABG Dynamic Analysis", focuses on disease risk prediction in intensive care units (ICUs). To ensure clinical relevance and the authenticity and practicality of the research, Zhao undertook an internship at Guangdong Provincial First Veterans Hospital, Guangzhou, where he immersed himself in the clinical setting and independently completed the cleaning and analysis of ICU data. Building on this solid practical foundation, he further developed a diagnostic model for disease risk prediction.During his presentation, Zhao demonstrated the data input design and rigorous logical architecture of the predictive system. The system is capable of effectively predicting potential disease risks based on patients’ arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis results. To date, this research outcome has been implemented in several partner hospitals and is scheduled for rollout to Centro Hospitalar Conde de São Januário in Macau and Zhejiang Provincial People’s Hospital, solving industrial challenges through digital and AI solutions.

The presentation was well received by the attending experts and scholars. As a third‑year undergraduate student presenting a high‑quality paper as the sole first author, Zhao received high recognition and commendation from the session moderators and panelists, professors from Fuyao University of Science and Technology.

Guided by the Honors Class philosophy of “active learning and holistic development”, Zhao has explored interdisciplinary applications of AI and large language models (LLMs) beyond computer science. With strong communication skills and practical problem‑solving abilities, he has been appointed as a research assistant at the Shenzhen Institute of Financial Stability and Development. He aspires to become a multidisciplinary professional applying cutting‑edge technology to complex real‑world challenges.

The Honors Class integrates quality resources to systematically cultivate students’ academic and innovative capacities, supporting each member from exploration to achievement. It remains committed to building a solid platform for research‑minded students, helping them advance further and more steadily in both scholarship and practice.
