CityU students embark on Singapore trip to explore innovative mental health service model

To broaden international perspectives and learn about advanced mental health service concepts, the Faculty of Health and Wellness (FHW) at the City University of Macau (CityU), organized a five-day Singapore study tour for students majoring in Social Work under the sponsorship by the Macao Foundation. The group was led by Jenny Lok Chan Nei, program coordinator in Social Work. The study tour also included faculty representatives from FHW, the School of Education, and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The aim of the tour was to study Singapore’s multi-layered social support network, which was built on a three-pronged philosophy: “people-centric”, “community-based”, and “innovative service”, and developed through inter-departmental collaboration.

The exchange group conducted visits to several representative mental health service institutions in Singapore, including the Fei Yue Family Service Centre, Fei Yue Child Protection Specialist Centre, Bizlink Center Singapore, and the Singapore Association for Mental Health. In addition, they engaged in in-depth discussions with faculty and students from the Singapore University of Social Sciences to understand the local advanced initiatives in social work practice and mental health services, learning about local innovative service concepts and practical experiences.

This exchange not only facilitated academic and professional exchanges between the Macao and Singapore in the field of Social Work but also broadened students’ international perspectives and inspired their innovative thinking. Participating students expressed their hope of bringing the innovative concepts and practical experiences they learned back to Macao to contribute to the development of the local mental health services.
