Congratulations! Students from the Faulty of Data Science achieve excellent results in the 15th National Marine Vehicle Design and Manufacturing Competition

Organized by the China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, the Chinese Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, the International Innovation and Cooperation in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Alliance, the 15th National Marine Vehicle Design and Manufacturing Competition was recently concluded. Two teams from City University of Macau, under the meticulous guidance of Associate Professor Duan Junwei, overcame challenges and achieved excellent results in the South China regional competition and national finals. Both teams ultimately earned the national second prize, demonstrating their strength in hands-on engineering and research innovation.

The competition was large in scale. In the regional rounds, it attracted 361 institutions, 5,404 teams, and 30,921 participants nationwide. After intense competition, 92 institutions, 1,559 teams, and 9,542 participants advanced to the national finals. CityU was represented by two teams: one comprising Yuan Zi’ang, Li Xiangjin, Wang Zexin, and Zhang Xuanting; the other consisting of Li Jiaxi, Pei Haolin, Zheng Wenjun, Wang Deyao, and He Ruiqi. Throughout the two-stage competition, the students demonstrated steady performance and delivered exceptionally impressive results.

The Design & Manufacturing – Surface Group led by Li Jiaxi, focused on unmanned vehicle design and control technology. Breaking away from conventional approaches, the team innovatively integrated a Large Language Model (LLM) for intelligent analysis of navigation logs and autonomous fault diagnosis. Combined with digital twin technology, they constructed a dual-domain coordinated control architecture that bridges virtual and physical realms. With their breakthrough innovations in stable operation and algorithmic architecture, the team made a strong impression at the South China regional competition, earning high praise from the judging panel and securing the first-place award in the “Design and Manufacturing – Surface Vehicle” category.

The Intelligent Navigation Group led by Yuan Zi’ang, explored the optimization and engineering application of marine intelligent navigation systems in their entry. Leveraging a solid project design, innovative technical approaches, and an outstanding defense presentation, the team earned a second-place award in the “Intelligent Navigation” category at the South China regional competition.

At the national finals, facing top-tier teams from 12 competition zones across the country, both CityU teams remained composed and confident, delivering steady performances that showcased their strengths. In the end, they both clinched national second-place awards in their respective tracks, bringing honor to the University.

This outstanding achievement is a testament to CityU’s commitment to interdisciplinary talent development, its emphasis on nurturing students through academic competitions, and its dedication to integrating industry-academia-research practices. Looking ahead, CityU will continue to deepen its educational reforms, strengthen interdisciplinary and integrated talent cultivation, and encourage more faculty and students to engage in technological innovation. The goal is to empower breakthroughs and greater success in national and high-level competitions.
