“Multicultural Learning Expands International Perspective” CityU Students Successfully Completed the Summer Portuguese Language and Culture Course at the Universidade do Minho
Recently, the Summer Portuguese Language and Culture Course co-operated by CityU and Universidade do Minho has been successfully held in Braga, Northern Portugal, from 2 July to 27 July, with the participation of 21 bachelor, master and doctoral candidates from different faculties.
At the beginning of the course, students were warmly welcomed by the teachers and students of Universidade do Minho. Prof. Carla Martins, Vice Rector of Universidade do Minho, introduced the courses, programs and history of Universidade do Minho. Later, students took the Portuguese proficiency test and were allocated to the suitable classes where they discussed, learned, inspired and encouraged with other international students from all over the world.
During this period, students have also participated in a variety of off-campus cultural activities, visiting and studying famous scenic spots such as Peneda-Gerês--the national park in northern Portugal, Viana do Castelo, Mosteiro de São Martinho de Tibães, etc.
In addition, students have deeply understood the traditional culture, customs and social development in various ways such as lectures, visits and cultural exchanges during their study in Portugal. The students who participated in this exchange have all expressed that this 28-day course has enriched their experiences, deepened their understanding of Portuguese history and further enhanced their Portuguese language ability and confidence.
CityU's Global Exchange Office has always been committed to promoting international university exchange programs in order to broaden our students’ international horizons and cultivate their multicultural learning abilities. In recent years, we have been closely working with Universidade do Minho. This year is the second year of this co-operating course and we do hope to provide more exchange opportunities for CityU students in the future.
