“Unite Youth Forces and Build Smart Firefighting”: Director Leong Iok Sam of the Fire Services Bureau Visits CityU

In order to raise the awareness of fire safety of teachers and students in universities in Macao and promote the development of “intelligent fire protection”, Director Leong Iok Sam of the Fire Services Bureau visited CityU on August 29, and was warmly received by Rector Shu Guang Zhang, Secretary-General Robert Chan and other leaders of CityU. The two sides held a discussion.

During the discussion, Rector Zhang warmly welcomed Director Leong and the delegation and thanked the Fire Services Bureau for its support to CityU’s fire drills and fire safety lectures. At the same time, some suggestions were put forward on fire safety hazards, food safety and other problems of CityU. Director Leong acknowledged the efforts made by CityU to pay attention to fire safety and ensure the safety of teachers and students. He said that he would continue to support the relevant work of CityU and work hand in hand in the construction of campus safety.

During this period, Director Leong and the delegation held a "Sincere Dialogue between Youth and Director" with more than 70 students in CityU. They interacted and communicated with the theme of “Unite Youth Forces and Build Smart Firefighting”, hoping that by face-to-face contact with young people the Fire Services Bureau can listen to students' views and expectations on firefighting and their opinions and suggestions on building " Smart Firefighting".

During the communication, Director Leong introduced the Fire Services Bureau's implementation of the policy of "Smart City" by the SAR government and "Smart Police" in aspect of security. The Bureau actively used big data and the Internet of Things to develop “Smart Firefighting” and has formulated short-, medium- and long-term plans for "Smart Firefighting" according to the situation in Macao. Besides, the Bureau will carry out relevant work in the aspects of firefighting, rescue and fire prevention in an orderly manner.  Director Leong interacted with the students in a relaxed atmosphere, and the students responded enthusiastically, speaking freely about “Smart Firefighting”, emergency rescue and fire prevention publicity.

It is hoped that this activity will increase students' interest in and awareness of fire prevention work and encourage them to bring fire prevention and firefighting information into the communities, so as to realize the concept of "fire prevention, public responsibility, limited police force and unlimited civilian power".
