The Inauguration Ceremony of the Craft Laboratory of the Faculty of Innovation and Design of CityU Is Held Smoothly

On October 4, the inauguration ceremony of the Craft Laboratory of the Faculty of Innovation and Design of CityU was held in Taipa Campus. President Wu Zhiliang of the Administrative Committee of Macao Foundation, Director Sou Chio Fai of the Tertiary Education Services Office, Representative Ho Hong Pan of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Dean Yao Meikang of the School of Design of Guangdong Shunde Polytechnic, Vice Chairman Ung Choi Kun of the CityU Council, and Rector Shu Guang Zhang, attended the inauguration ceremony. Faculty and department heads, colleagues, teachers and students were present to witness the ceremony. Dean Wu Yao of the Faculty of Innovation and Design delivered a speech at the ceremony.

In his speech, Dean Wu expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Macao Foundation and the faculties and departments of CityU for their support and funding for the construction of the Craft Laboratory. He also said that the laboratory would be committed to implementing the development strategy of the Government of Macao SAR to vigorously develop the creative design industry, enhance the education level and characteristics of creative design, and implement innovative design performance and aesthetic practice.

The Faculty of Innovation and Design of CityU has always been committed to integrating academics and art; theory and practice; and education and social needs. Precision Lab will provide space and platform for experimental teaching, research and innovation for teachers and students of design art and students who are interested in design at CityU. It will be based on design practice and technical operation, integrating different needs of professional design, focusing on training students' technical appreciation and practical ability, so as to improve their overall perception of design in practice. It is a necessary prerequisite for cultivating outstanding designers and an important way to practice the spirit of "craftsman". The faculty will strive to maximize the potential and function of the laboratory, and further enhance the education quality of the design and the team's ability of scientific research innovation and professional practice of CityU.

After the inauguration ceremony, the guests visited the Precision Lab and expressed their recognition and appreciation for the construction of the laboratory and the development ideas and goals of "integration of education and practice".
