Prominent tourism expert Prof. Walter Jamieson recently visited the FITM City U to promote academic development and international cooperation and communication of the faculty. Prof. Walter Jamieson and the other guests were welcomed by Prof. Aliana Leong, Vice Rector of City U and senior FTIM staff including Dr. Li Xi, Vice Dean, Dr. Liu J.X, Program Coordinator, Assistant Prof. Gao Y, and Mr. Gary Kou, Administrative Officer. Prof. Leong shared the rapid development of the FITM, especially the achievements the faculty had made in recent years. Prof. Jamieson was impressed by the overall leading position of the faculty in the field of tourism education in Macau just in its fourth year of operation. Prof. Jamieson noted the academic achievements of the FITM faculty having published many research papers in leading SSCI journals. A paper and a monograph by Prof. Leong, Dean of the Faculty, garnered first prize and merit award separately at the 4th Award for Excellence in Humanities and Social Sciences Research of Macau 2015. According to Prof. Jamieson the FITM’s curricula and specialties were progressive and well-developed in line with the demands of social and industrial development. He expressed his hopes of cooperation between the FITM and Thammasat University, where he was currently serving, as well as institutions in other regions of the world, especially on exchange of professors and students, joint development of excellent graduate students, and joint application and study of research projects. Prof. Leong disclosed that as both the Master and Doctoral programs of International Hospitality and Tourism Management of the FITM had earned the UNWTO TedQual Certificate, the faculty has a distinct advantage in international cooperation. Guests and hosts expressed willingness to start substantial and incremental cooperation in the near future. The guests were given a tour of the Taipa Campus of City U after the meeting. Prof. Jamieson has been involved in the academia of international tourism management as well as consultancy activities over the last 40 years. He was a former Dean of the School of Travel Industry Management at the University of Hawaii and his consultancy activities included working with the United Nations World Tourism Organization, ESCAP and UNESCO. As a world-famous tourism expert, Prof. Jamieson was invited to be a Visiting Professor and Ph.D. Supervisor of the FITM City U. |
