SCS City U Accelerates Talent Reserve Cultivation in Response to the Forthcoming Period of Profound Economic Adjustment

The 1st Graduation and Certificate Conferment Ceremony for Gaming Operation Practitioners, jointly organized by SCS City U and Macau Gaming Industry Labourers Association, was held recently for about 150 graduates. Guests attending the ceremony included Mr. Chan Ming Kam, Chairman of the University Board, Prof. Aliana Leong, Vice Rector of City U, Mr. Kong Ngai, Director of Extension Education Division DSEJ, and Ms. Ma J.W, Director-General of Macau Gaming Industry Labourers Association.
Ms. Yvonne Ma stated that the graduates had received not only technical training on Baccarat, Blackjack, Roulette, and Sic Bo operation, but also courses including cashier, customer services, table management, and English communication. Ms. Ma expressed her hope that such professional training will sharpen the competitive edge of citizens, members, and practitioners and facilitate their advancement in all directions.
Prof. Leong indicated that amid the process of building Macau into a World Tourism and Leisure Center, the gaming industry is embracing new development opportunities. On the one hand, the expectations and demands of all sectors of Macau community and visitors on gaming products and services are constantly upgrading, on the other hand, the forthcoming gaming complexes in Cotai further demands more human resources. Therefore, more qualified and gaming operation practitioners must be trained in response to the rapid development of the gaming industry. Through close cooperation and communication, SCS City U and professional associations have jointly developed a new model of academy-industry cooperation and win-win development, witnessed by guests and graduates present at the ceremony.
Mr. Chan Ming Kam congratulated the graduates and thanked the Macau Gaming Industry Labourers Association and the SCS for their devotion to the training program. Mr. Chan also encouraged the graduates to constantly improve themselves and master more professional abilities and skills in the period while profound changes are taking place in the gaming industry. Participation in continued education will not only facilitate the practitioners’ advancement, but also benefit the sustainable development of the gaming industry by replenishing the talent reserve of the industry.
The SCS City U was established in September, 2011 in response to the social development and the administrative policy of the Macau SAR government in encouraging lifelong learning and adult education among residents. The SCS provides ample and diverse learning opportunities to adult learners including various types of degree programs and short-term training programs. The faculty also actively cooperates with different government sectors and institutions providing diversified professional training programs, such as the MICE Industry Practitioners Training Programs jointly with DSAL, the Exhibition Ambassador Program jointly with Macau FTA, and the Adult Education Tutor Certificate/Diploma Courses jointly with Macau Adult Education Association. The SCS test center, providing international English tests such as TOEIC and TOEFL and corresponding training programs, also  receives positive feedbacks from cooperating agencies and students. Over 5,000 examinees take the English tests at the SCS test center each year.
The SCS City U will maintain its policy of cooperating with all sectors of the community, integrating superior education resources, and boosting the moderate economic and industrial diversification and sustainable development of Macau by providing ample and diverse learning opportunities for the community.
