The City University of Macau hosted the 8th Adult Education & Social Development International Conference Series co-organized by the SCS of City University of Macau and the Association for Adult Education. The conference included seminars, graduate students’ forum, and an advanced training program for Deans of Schools of Continuing Studies in China and ran through December 3 – 5, 2013.
Graduate students’ forum of International Hospitality and Tourism Management program of the FITM were held in the fourth floor of the Golden Dragon campus of City University of Macau. Masters and doctoral candidates of International Hospitality and Tourism Management program of the FITM positively participated in the forum. Among the fourteen doctoral supervisors of International Hospitality and Tourism Management program newly engaged by the FITM, Prof. Song H.Y, Prof. Du W.C, Prof. Zhang Q., Prof. Liu M.J, Prof. Huang Q.X as well as Prof. Aliana Leong, Prof. Li Xin and invited Prof. Li Xi all attended the forum as mentors.
The graduate students’ forum of International Hospitality and Tourism Management program ran two sessions in the morning and in the afternoon. Eleven Masters and doctoral candidates of International Hospitality and Tourism Management programs were chosen to present their selected papers and each received comments and suggestions for improvement from the doctoral supervisors. The active and sparkling interactions between supervisors and students enhanced their mutual understanding and the masters and doctoral candidates benefited considerably on their major related research level due to the brilliant comments of the supervisors.
Exactly as Chen H.M, the student representative of doctoral candidates said on the closing ceremony, all the masters and doctoral students appreciated the opportunity of learning and expressing offered by the FITM. The forum has broadened the academic horizons of the graduate students of the FITM and constructed a fairly high level research and academic platform for them. The students benefited considerably through communication and interaction with the many famous doctoral supervisors, their understanding and cognition of research enhanced and their research consciousness and ability improved.
Therefore, it is suggested that the graduate students’ forum be kept as a fixed part of the future international seminars and forums, and famous doctoral supervisors from Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau would be invited as mentors. Meanwhile, scales and scopes of future forums would be expanded to include selected masters and doctoral students of other universities to present their research achievements. By doing so, comparisons would strengthen the learning spirit of masters and doctoral students and the inclusion of the forums would promote the influence and attractiveness of the FITM among graduates of other universities.
